Making sense of the list

Which direction to head

The list above covers the whole Dallas-Fort Worth area, which is large. Grouping it by direction from the hotel makes it easier to plan a day rather than criss-crossing the Metroplex.

Straight north, closest to us. Grapevine Mills Mall, historic downtown Grapevine, the Tarantula and Grapevine Vintage steam railroad, and Coppell. The shortest trip out.

Just south, in Irving. The Mustangs of Las Colinas at Williams Square, Irving Mall, the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas and the former Texas Stadium site.

Southeast, toward Arlington and Grand Prairie. Six Flags Over Texas, Hurricane Harbor, the ballpark in Arlington, Lone Star Park, the Palace of Wax and Ripley's Believe It or Not.

East, into Dallas. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the Kennedy memorial and Dallas County Historical Plaza, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Meadows Museum, the Dallas World Aquarium, the Dallas Zoo, Fair Park, the Dallas Arboretum, Swiss Avenue Historic District, Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park, Southfork Ranch and American Airlines Center.

West, into Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Stockyards, Billy Bob's, the Fort Worth Zoo and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.

North beyond the airport. Texas Motor Speedway.

Practical notes

Planning a day out from the hotel

Irving's position is the reason to stay here: you are roughly between the two downtowns rather than committed to either, so a trip east one day and west the next works from a single base without changing hotels.
